Standing an impressive 37 inches tall, this pot was originally used for storing and transporting water, oil or grains, playing an essential role in everyday village life.

Handcrafted decadesfrom stoneware clay, the vessel showcases a deep, rich glaze that not only adds to its visual appeal but also served a practical purpose—sealing the porous ceramic to make it watertight (may not be water tight).  The slightly flared rim and subtly textured body speak to the potter’s hand in its creation, while natural imperfections and signs of age lend a unique character that cannot be replicated.

These large-scale water pots date back to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) The glazing process, often done in earthy or dark tones, was a signature feature of pottery from provinces like Jiangxi and Shanxi, where kiln traditions were passed down through generations.
